Great tips Luca
I like aquiring vocabulary while watching series in the language
It's a fun way to learn new words in a natural and passive way

I find children's literature useful in acquiring new vocabulary for instance; "La pierre magique" for French words.

Mille grazie! Any catch, and any review. And no ANKI! Wunderbar!

Love Luca, but this is confusing to the uninitiated (i.e: me)...

1. Read and listen to as much comprehensible input as possible (Yup, yup, all good).
2. Catch-the-fish system (OK, sentence mining for Anki?)
3. Have a review system in place (Yes, Anki).

..."if you do this, you will not need ... Anki ... you will just learn as efficiently as it can get"

Huh?

I have a question- how do you deal with words that are almost homophones but not quite? For example in Urdu I have had difficulty telling ‘sailaab’ (flood) and ‘salaib’ (crucifix) apart, and ‘talwaar’ (sword) from ‘tahwaar’ (festival) - I’m sure I’ll have more problems like this in future too, so any tips?

Hi Luca lampariello, you are my stan, I love you so much, I love all the polyglots but you in particular because you jump on the next language after reaching a comfortable level in the one you're learning, I see youtubers who speak more languages than you but not all at a desirable level just like yours, I've mastered some of your videos by heart, I recite them with my friends, they have started calling me Luca in my neighborhood, I love you, I wish we could meet someday.

I would like to learn vocabulary with a notebook, but I literally addicted to Anki. I tried to stop using it a couple times, but I just can't.

Luca I'm really confused about an aspect of this. In this video you implied that using something such as Anki is not necessary. Steve Kauffman seems to be strongly against it. But, if I have a catch-a-fish system in place to capture words and phrases that my native speaking girlfriend used (Google translate phrasebook) and/or something I got from a podcast or a book, why not put those items into an Anki deck for review? What review system could possibly be more effective than an SRS based system like Anki? What alternate do you suggest for review of the items that I "caught in my net"?

Sounds sort of like Steve Kaufmann's LingQ.

Very well said. But anki _does_ all of those things wonderfully. I am using this tool for almost a year and it's a keeper. What would you suggest instead?

Great suggestions. But the problem arises when you have thousands words or expressions to learn

Don't just learn words. Vocabulary lists are worthless. You should remember everything. Only write down sentences and phrases. Only watch what you like.

I don't speak the language! How will I know I will enjoy it ahead of time? Oy!
