Why Dune Is A (Near) Perfect Adaptation

Denis Villeneuve is no stranger to pulling off near impossible tasks. Arguably his most well liked movies (i.e. Arrival and Blade Runner 2049) are the movies of his that sound like they should not work. His latest foray into the science fiction sandbox, Dune, is the same. The movie(s) should not work, and yet, they do. For whatever reason, Dune: Part One (and probably Part Two) is not only watchable but genuinely quite good! Why?

Frank Herbert never said he wrote messiah to correct the misconceptions about Paul’s character. This is something Denis Villenueve and others have made up entirely. No article or video stating this ever provides a source.

What I like about books Villeneuve’s adapts into movies is how he is showing us what the author is trying to tell us. Not a play by play explanation of the book.

6:57 The ability to get talented people to work with you is a skill set in itself, and then to extract from them that talent or allow them to mine more from within themselves is incredible. Denis is one of my new favorite directors ever since Sicario came out. He really won me over with 2049 though.

Well done video. Every review Ive seen thus far is all about picking at nits.

Funny. I always thought that, with all these bloody classic things being retconned by remakes, Dune is among very few that actually has the lore amount to justify extrapolation.
It'd be better as a series, for that, but was still dissapointed about that D:

I will be going to see it in a few hours. I was actually very disappointed with Part 1 and had originally no intention on seeing Part 2. Perhaps I will make a video essay or something to attempt to explain why.

I will have to watch it again, it was changed too much for me. It was not bad.

I can understand changing Chani to emphasize the dangers of fanaticism, but changing Alia's story is almost unforgivable to me. Her origin and strangeness were what made Dune so good for me personally.
