How to install WD_Black SN850 and check speeds

This is a video to show you how to install the WD_Black SN850 NVMe drive both in terms of hardware and the installation in Windows 10.

The process for installing is really easy but may vary depending on your motherboard - some have heatsinks and different screw setups. It's also worth checking your manual as you may find that not all the drives work the same way.

You do not need to remove your motherboard from the case to do this, but please unplug it and use appropriate anti-static equipment.

Like most NVMe SSDs, this one does NOT come with M2 screws in the box! If you lose it or find you don't have one then there's good news as you can buy them from Amazon*:

hi greate video, i have a problem with my setup - on an Asus X570-e motherboard - after I install the ssd correctly as you also showed, when i power on the machine it gets stuck in the pre bios screen - i can't go into bios as delete or F2 do not work and there is nothing I can do - if I restart it I am stuck on the same screen, after powering off the pc and removing the M2 ssd the PC is back to normal - can you give some clues to what is the issue and how can I resolve it?

Great video, very helpful. Just a query regarding the SN850x + heatsink I am not getting any interface speed on the WD Dashboard. It just comes up not supported? Current speed read is 6969, write is 6266 approximately is this setup correctly as I can see anything within the BIOS. My PC is a Dell XPS 8950.

Hi, aren't you supposed to remove the label on the drive so the chips make direct contact with the thermal pads?

i get a reboot error, i think the pci lanes are jammed cuz my pc is old. It wants to boot thru it. how do i sidestep that problem

I encounter some confusion immediately, the drive is already blue in disk management, I can right click on it but all the options are greyed out. I can see it in my bios, wd dashboard and device manager

Why did you delete “New Volume” and what was that about…and did I miss something or did you show deleting and not say anything about it???
