Today we will be taking a look at what I think are the hardest levels in Ratchet and Clank 2002, some of these levels destroyed me as a kid, some of them are stupidly designed and frustrating and some of them are just well designed and fun to play for the pure CHALLENGE!

The HARDEST Ratchet & Clank 2002 Levels! | Badman
Developer: Insomniac Games
====================

Ratchet & Clank is a 3D platform video game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2 in 2002. Ratchet & Clank is the first game in the series and precedes Going Commando.

The game follows the anthropomorphic character Ratchet meeting the robot Clank on his home planet. Clank discovers that the villainous Chairman Drek of the Blarg race plans to create a new planet for his species, destroying other planets in the process. Clank convinces Ratchet to help him in his mission to gain the help of the famous superhero Captain Qwark.

The game offers a wide range of weapons and gadgets that the player must use to defeat numerous enemies and solve puzzles on a variety of different planets in the fictional "Solana" galaxy. The game also includes several mini-games, such as racing or hacking, which the player must complete to proceed. The game was very well received by critics, who praised the graphics, gameplay, voice acting, audio, soundtrack and comedic approach to the story; some criticism was levelled at the camera, the characterization of the lead characters and the low level of difficulty in early stages.

I found the rilgar flood level really hard for ages until I learnt how to completely embarass it by just chaining the helipack stretch jump all the way to the end, and now its kind of impossible to fail for me unless I bonk an enemy by mistake

The hardest part of the game for me was returning to Orxon with Ratchet. If you don't have the visibomb the mix of enemies right after platforming challenges can be tough.

Always found last visit on Veldin really tough, enemies everywhere, little ammo so you have to calculate what weapons to use first and last

Orxon (however difficulty makes it really memorable)

Oltanis by far the hardest level only because without Clank

How about planet Orxon? Those freaking gosh darn crabs, man! You don't expect individual enemies to actually be difficult to fight, let alone nearly impossible to beat in melee, until you come across those things. And they throw 6 of them at you at one time! There's nothing like taking on 3 groups of them (one of which basically requires a visibomb to kill them all), jumping across a difficult pit, climbing across a magneto-boot course with dangerous pterodactyls, fighting more groups of them...and then dying, only to do all of it all over again! This level will be burnt into my brain forever.

I think R&C games are way harder than the cartoonish aesthetic might have you believe. The most frustrating parts of the series I find are:

- The lack of good checkpoints in long segments like boss fights;

- When the game introduces new mechanics that aren’t shooting in the main story quests;

- Ratchet has a stagger animation when he gets hit;

I recently played the remake on PS5 and I couldn’t beat the final boss without RYNO. The combination of a ultra aggressive boss that takes off way too much health, the multiple elite enemies and the lack of health orbs made that a frustrating experience.

I think the standard mode is maybe well tuned for most veterans of the series but the games can have some crazy spikes in difficultly at times IMO.

I remember the rising water bit, I was stuck on it as a kid for so long, I actually got ryno before I beat Rilgar

Yeah the Drek's Fleet level and let alone the Disguise Segments are tough, but I found handling it like you would a Stealth game, actually makes it a bit more bearable, so waiting for when the Patrolling Guard Bots are alone and when you are close enough kill em all one by one, while the dog's are a pain they usually make it so that the Bots are out of the area giving you enough time to take them out, like with the missile launch or Agents of Doom.

Your list is pretty spot on, although I never found planet Rilgar to be difficult. Planet Kalebo III, on the other hand, made me want to tear my hair out.

I honestly don't find any level in RAC 1 to be difficult anymore, except maybe oltanis. on my first playthrough though, gaspar, pokitaru, hoven, oltanis, orxon 2, kalebo III and veldin 2 were all quite hard. most of the "hard" planets are only hard because you can't just run in and shoot everything. for example, pokitaru is hard because the pufferfish have a weird attack pattern that no other enemy has, so if you're not actually careful when dealing with them it's easy to get hit. but you can easily kill them with even just melee attacks if you learn to time your attacks against them. the boat sections seem hard at first glance but realistically as long as you just keep running in circles with the pyrocitor it's a joke. this is what I love about these levels; they're actually very well designed when you think about it, since they mix things up and make you plan your approach differently. a strategy that works on one level might not work on another, and that makes for a more engaging game than just running in and shooting everything for 10 hours.

...huh, the swimming part's easy for me, I haven't struggled with it since I was a kid

The Suck Cannon is GODLIKE on Pokitaru, it has some annoying bits for sure but it's actually my favorite level. I agree with your other choices, the water section on Rilgar and Veldin for sure.
My other picks would be Orxon and Qwark's gauntlet on Umbris. I've also never liked Eudora for some reason.

When i played the final level for the first time it was the hardest point in every game I have ever played. I had a maximum of 1k bolts at all times and couldn't buy much ammo for my guns. So by the end of it I was using the bomb glove.

Rilgar - a bit tricky but just keep moving and jump enemies instead of fighting
Pokitaru - really easy just spin with pyrocitor. Also Decoy glove exists…
Oltanis - genuinely a tough level
Drek’s Fleet - You know those orbs don’t spawn if the robots don’t see you right…?
Veldin- genuinely tough as enemies have so much range

What about Orxon or Umbris?

-Oltanus: I really wished I had streifing here.
-Pokitaru: I did Poketaru with the pyrocitor, decoy glove, suck cannon, and ocationally the mine glove.
Orxson: I found myself using the vizibomb and rocket-launcher alot.
-Quartu: I used the visibomb to chease parts of the stealth section.
-Veldin Orbit: I found myself using the decoy glove to run past ennemys alot.
-Return to Veldin: I actually did a wrench-only run here, to conserve ammo for the bbeg.
- For Dreck, activate the drone device. Then if you have it, use the RYNO. Otherwise hit him with the devistator, blaster, and tesla-claw.
Use your mines and agents of doom to take out Dreck's mines and minions, but don't bother trying to target Dreck himself with them.
Do not bother trying to use the visibomb. It will leave you a sitting duck.
Don't forget to dodge attacks, reset the timmer, refreash you drone-device, and reload your ammo with the PDA.

I think the most difficult level is Oltanis. The list is pretty good though, and I'd add Orxon (Ratchet in Orxon), too, but there are some tricks and strategies that make most of these levels way easier: suck cannon in Pokitaru, helipack spam in Rilgar, and a bit of patience and intelligent use of weapons in Drek's fleet make them a breeze. Oltanis and Veldin, though, are actually really hard and some of the best levels in the game, indeed.

I never found the rising water to be too changing. Infact, I liked the set piece so much, I would purposely die to replay it again and again. Very cool moment that I'm glad is in the remake.

Okay maybe I'm a bit salty bc I've been playing RaC 2002 for years and years, but I'm kinda strongly disagreeing with this. During this whole video of Ratchet dying to enemies I was like "come on, git gud" like how can you just die to that? 6:00 is the one that made me rant the most. I just think those clips are to be considered difficult and challenging for a kid playing through it for the first time.
The one level (maybe the only one) that's always more challenging I think it's Orxon 2, when exploring as Ratchet. Maybe the left path (the one leading to Premium Nanotech) is more complicated than the right one leading to the Hoven Infobot. But it's just about crowd control, once you manage to kill those crabs safely, you're fine

I agree about Oltanis, there are some paths which require sheer *skill* to get through
I guess I can also agree about Rilgar, awesome planet but the water path really needs some movement skill and coordination that can make it *really* difficult for a child. But I think doing it without the O2 Mask is literally the point of it, though. It really hard blocked me as a kid, I can remember it very well ;)
