Although not quite as popular as other leafy green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli and kale, brussels sprouts are growing in popularity due to their many healthy nutrients and health promoting abilities. They can fit in to practically any diet. You can cook brussels sprouts and add them to healthy recipes, cook and eat them on their own or simply add them to your favourite smoothie recipes. Now, lets discuss some of the amazing health benefits of consuming brussels sprouts regularly.

1. First, brussels sprouts are incredibly nutrient dense. They are loaded with many healthy vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that can promote our overall health. More specifically, brussels sprouts are an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin C, manganese, folate, vitamin A and potassium. They are also an excellent source of dietary fibre and packed with many different antioxidants while being low in calories.

2. Not only are brussels sprouts loaded with nutrition, they are also a rich source of antioxidants. These antioxidant compounds can help to boost immunity, reduce inflammation and prevent certain disease. As mentioned previously, they are an excellent source of vitamin C. They are also especially high in a potent and unique antioxidant compound known as kaempferol.

3. Brussels sprouts can also help to improve overall digestion and gut health. This is often attributed to the high levels of fibre they contain. These great levels of fibre can help to add bulk, promote healthy digestion and reduce symptoms of constipation. As well, the good levels of fibre and inflammation fighting compounds in brussels sprouts can help food move through the digestive tract more efficiently and smoothly, while also increasing nutrient uptake from the healthy foods we eat.

4. They can also help to improve bone health while also promoting bone strength. This is because brussels sprouts are loaded with bone healthy nutrients, such as manganese, copper and iron. In addition to these bone healthy nutrients, brussels sprouts are an excellent source of vitamin K, which all work to prevent bone mineral density loss.

This is often attributed to substances found in this vegetable known as glucosinolates. These compounds help to regulate the body’s inflammatory response. I like eating them uncooked. I try eating them daily. I noticed my skin looks tighter on my tummy. I've had two kids so it's made a huge difference. I would recommend every woman that has had kids to eat brussel sprouts to tighten the skin in the abdominal area.

All Cabbage families are extremely health promoting. The vegetables are extremely nutrient dense, they all have amazing vitamins. Brocoli, Coliflower, Any and all Cabbage, and Brussel sprouts are all family members. What I want to see is Brussel Sprout Kimchi!
