Summary: innovations undergo a predictable 5-stage cycle, that take from 3 to 5 years to be completed, from it's creation until it becomes obsolete or mainstream. It begins with the (1) Innovation Trigger, then goes through the hype peak called (2) Peak of Inflated Expectations, then goes throgh a (3) Disilliosionment phase, then through a (4) Slope of Enlightment where the results become increasingly real to finally reach the (5) Plateau of Productity where the idea is already widely understood and efficiently implemented. Not all ideas survive the whole cycle, many being dropped / replaced along the way. Understanding this concept may help your business adopt and give-up ideas in the optimal timming.

I perceive Gartner’s Hype Cycles approach as robust enough to objectively answer the question, “Is the hype real?” for any ‘innovation’.

I value their objectivity.

Gartner hype cycles are a true inspiration for anyone in tech as they size things up and unwrap all the hype surrounding any tech. I see it often to catch up with the hip and hype in the tech world.

I believe this video has a typo; should it be the "Slope of Enlightenment"? The current graphic says "Enlightment."

Hi Gartner, could you please share again the hype cycle of the sourcing and procurement analysis of 2022? Right now it says archives. It will be very useful for my research. Thanks so much.

Ever heard of HyperCycle?

It doesn't exist actually.

Only The Whirpool where The Lord Of The Construct reigns.
