There are three strains of albinism in leopard geckos. They are called Tremper, Rainwater, and Bell. Each strain is an unique recessive albino gene and are genetically incompatible with each other.

Yours is most likely a rainwater albino based on how dark the eyes are.

She's beautiful! I am blessed to have a healthy wild gecko population around my house so I don't have to have them as pets. In fact I spend more time trying to get them out of my house than in. :P They love to run in the front door when it is opened. - Heidi

I know someone who rescued a leopard gecko. The poor gecko was literally on death's door- starving to death, organs were failing, skeletal, lost most of his toes due to bad sheds, and everything else bad you can imagine. The owner just didn't want to care for him anymore, so just... stopped caring.

The gecko lived 2 more years before all the organ damage finally took its toll and he needed to be euthanized. But he died fat and happy and loved.

Thank you for helping all the critters you can, and for helping to educate people.

I wish all moms were that responsible. I met a child who brought me his brother's leopard gecko to watch, but I was shocked when I saw its condition. It was so sickenly skinny that there was not a scrap of fat on any part of its body and I could feel all its bones. It was stiff and almost lifeless when picked up. A friend of mine confronted the mom of the kid and asked why the gecko looked like this, and she said it was because she simply didn't want to pay to feed her young son's gecko, and instead caught it a few grasshoppers a month to eat. I think videos like this are important because they stress that reptiles--No matter the size--are not simply throw away pets. Reptiles take love and derivation just like cats and dogs!

Removing stuck sheds is such an important skill for any reptile caregiver to have given that the occasional bad shed is inevitable. My largest female crestie had a really bad shed a month or so ago. It happens, even in the best conditions. Thanks for bringing awareness to this since there are a lot of parents getting their children geckos who have no idea the care they will have to be prepared to assist with.

Oh bless! She was stuck “in the blind”, poor baby! I’ve not seen that in reptiles before.

My son rescued ill exotic reptiles regularly, (and my poor husband is phobic about reptiles and amphibians (picture a 6’8” man screaming as a frog jumps on him)). It seemed every snake he rescued had retained eye scales before they came to him : (
Although tracheal washes at the vet were our hardest (most personally painful) experience with rescued snakes with pneumonia (especially a lovely boa he with retained shed and pneumonia). He would hold her while I gave her the antibiotic shots. Oh, it felt torturous though (the wash, not the shots). It was impossible in our area to find a rescue that could help and when he had a baby he lost the funding flexibility to continue.
You are absolutely right, prevention is the cure! (And also more responsable breeders where sales are concerned, with better screening and a “the animal comes back to me” if there’s a problem).

Not that I donate for the shout out, but I'm super excited to see my name as a sponsor for a rescue video! I'm so happy Jelly is doing well, and hope that the little I am able to give right now is helping you save more animals!

I just rehomed a leopard gecko. She's in fantastic condition except for what seems to be a little retained skin around some toes. I gave her a bath just now and she's currently curled up in her humid hide, so I'm hoping the situation resolves with no missing toes!

I just got my first pair of leopard geckos today! They now live in a really big 40 gallon breeder.

This is a delightful rehabilitation story, thank you! Leopard geckos are adorable and fascinating creatures. They're popular as pets, so I always look at the ones at my local pet store when I pick up dog food. Their pens are temporary, so they are too small, but the coloration and temperature are always decent, and nobody looks sick or weak.

Such an adorable girl! So happy to hear she got the attention she needed. Another victory for Animal Wonders!

And also as a reminder to pet owners that have to use water for natural environment care (plants), pet drinking, or pet bathing, please don't use treated sources of water if you have a soft water system. The salt content is not safe for critters like birds and reptiles especially. but regular Well tap or Spring water is fine.

Hey, Jessi! My name is Izzy and I need some advice about a situation I’ve found myself in recently. A friend of mine from school was selling her turtle, and when I asked her about it she told me stories about how she pretty much abused the poor thing. I knew immediately I needed to get the turtle away from her, so I made a deal and I should be getting them next week. However, I’m very concerned about the condition it might be in. She barely cleaned his aquarium and once forgot to feed him for three weeks! I don’t know too much about turtles but I don’t think that’s very good. I’ve been doing as much research as I can, but she is very unclear about what type of turtle it is and I’m worried I can’t do the proper research I need to do. All I know is that it’s an aquatic turtle who is missing a few toes (unsure what she meant by this, toes or just claws) and is probably underweight. I’m going to try to take it to a vet as soon as I get it, but I don’t really know where to take it or what sort of vet it’ll need. Help from anyone is really appreciated! Thanks so much.
