Are you tackling a creative project that requires working with grommets? You can do it! This quick video tutorial from JOANN will guide you through the grommet installation process so that by the end, you will know how to install grommets in any kind of fabric. Grommets can be decorative elements on home decor items, but are most commonly used in curtains for the rod to slide through. Grommets are often also used in utility projects such as tarps and movie screens. Installing grommets is a super quick and easy process and adds a professional touch and durability to fabric crafts. Let's watch and learn how to use grommets!

As you watch, you will learn that there are two main types of grommets and the installation process for each differs slightly. There are metal grommets, which tend to be smaller and recommended for use on backpacks, tents or other crafts. When working with metal grommets, special grommet pliers are required, so make sure you have those before you begin! From there, you'll simply trace the inside of the grommet circle onto your fabric, cut that hole, and insert the grommet parts to either side of the hole. This is where your grommet pliers come in handy. You'll use the pliers to firmly press the grommet together and ensure it's secured onto the fabric. This video will go into further detail during this part of the process so you can see exactly how it works! Simple, right?

The other kind of grommets you may find yourself working with are large, plastic grommets, which have an even simpler grommet installation process. You may find yourself working with large grommets for window curtains, shower curtains, or other large-scale fabric crafts. To install large grommets, you will follow the same steps of tracing and cutting a hole in the fabric. Then, you can easily align the grommet parts on either side of the fabric and firmly press them together with your hands. No grommet pliers required!

I'm finally about to install the plastic grommets I got from JoAnn's a couple of months ago.

They're the most wonderfully horrible 1970's orange patterned curtains, and they're thick enough to block out the morning Sun streaking in through my balcony. I just want to modernize them a bit with grommets and raise them up a few more inches from the floor.

I debated between golden grommets, to make it pop, or the more subtle copper brown. I opted for subtle. I can always change it later.
