Rory Stewart joins calls for cash transfers to end extreme poverty

Rory Stewart, the former Conservative international development secretary, has supported calls for the UK to be more innovative and ambitious with international aid.

"We waste an incredible amount of money designing programmes, teaching people to do things, when often if we get out of the way and give cash, the results are extraordinary," he said.

The call echoes the head of the International Rescue Committee David Miliband who has said the UK should be more ambitious with international aid - and do so without "hubris" about its global role.

Rory is telling the truth.Big charities pay their staff huge salaries. This money needs to go directly to those that need it. Equally, the same argument needs to be applied here in the UK. Stop consultancies. We know the problems. Eg NHS and the stealth privatisation has meant more taxpayer money going to shareholders, and not patients.

International aid needs to be vastly reduced and we also need to stop involving ourselves in other countries wars and issues, too many of our own now and giving all our money away while people die and left homeless here isn't good enough any more, I'm almost 50 and seen this go on all my life. Why pay taxes and vote people in who just give it away instead of developing our own country. TIRED.

One big question to ask: WHY are there 700 million people in extreme poverty?? If one knows the “why” perhaps we can get to the root of it and change it from there.

Yes, why not give more to other country's. It doesn't matter about our old people, the sick and disabled freezing and starving to death. Why worry about them, as long as we look good helping other country's that probably don't need help.
