Kate announces shock cancer diagnosis

The Princess of Wales has announced that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.

In a statement, Kate said that when she was admitted to hospital for abdominal surgery in January, it was thought her condition was non-cancerous, but tests after the operation found cancerous cells.

Kate said that it had been an “incredibly tough” couple of months for her family, and that she has waited until now to update the public about her health because it had taken time to explain her condition to her children.

Privacy is so important when having been diagnosed with cancer. I say this as a cancer survivor to help others understand the need for privacy in the initial phase of diagnosis. With any sort of life-threatening diagnosis, the individual needs time to absorb the diagnosis, treatment plan, options available & chances of survival, etc. Many more medical factors are involved as Catherine journeys through her recovery process. Give them the space she & her family need to navigate this process of battling cancer & on to the recovery phase. Also, give Catherine back her control in how she chooses to share her progress.
