That trackpad sounds like my back when I stand up in the morning

One of these days, I want to see an LMG staff member unbox and review a laptop in the truly budget category (sub-$500) and mention all the compromises that such a laptop makes to hit that pricepoint. Then, take someone with less experience with premium laptops to try out the laptop for a while to see how much these compromises affect the opinion of a layperson without the context of much better laptops.

I like the grayscale editing to help convey which laptop is playing. Great editing!

Look, I get how this is cheaper than most ultrabooks but I don't think most people would consider $800 a budget option, especially the $1050 option you have here.

Edit: Looks like they changed the name, guess that works.

re: audio, I'm getting that even on my old acer.. it comes with dolby software that has EQs and stuff. But realistically the audio with the dolby stuff on - even with a flat EQ profile and no settings - is what the audio SHOULD sound like, and the 'off' setting is just deliberately made to sound like crap so that when you turn it on it makes you go "wow, this dolby thing is gag. Bad part #2 is that several programs (mostly those that connect to an audio input device) trigger it to self-disable. Bad part #3 is that it doesn't just change the output.. it changes the mixing.. meaning that if I record the audio output, and play it back, those 'corrections' are applied twice, and anyone without that junk software will also effective hear it applied twice (once by dolby's software, and 'once' because on THEIR systems, the sound with the dolby stuff off would have sounded right to begin with).
Maybe do a techquickie on this? Even if just your specific case?

Editor: puts 2.0 with a cross through it
Everyone watching: so.... it does have HDMI 2.1?

I think anything 600-999$ could be considered mid range... basically anything that has metal construction but only 8gb of ram. Totally usable, but maybe not the best experience.

I personally have this laptop( the exact same one they have), and owned it for about 3 months now, and for my work load as a student studying computer science, I personally don't regret it.
The keyboard is actually really good and the feedback is incredible compared to other laptops I've own in the past, perfect snappy and tactical key witch, I will say that you do need finger lube for the trackpad, but it seems in the video that your unity has an issue with its trackpad. I was pressing down on it everywhere and couldn't find a single issue with it, it work just like a good trackpad.
Also the keyboard flex is there, which is caused by the elevation of itself, its not really noticeable for regular use.
The display if fine for outdoor usage, just gotta keep your brightness all the way up, and I can run valorant, in 1080 mid-high settings for refrence. I will say that it might be better to compare it more towards the xps 13, as of course the xps 15 is just better.
over all its basically kinda like a xps 13 if it had a amd processor.

I've been rockin an Inspiron 13 2in1 for the past almost year and MSRP was $1500 but I got it for $900, killer deal on Black Friday. These things honestly hold up great, amazing screen, snappy keyboard (quite literally as you said), and it has the wow factor for all the MacBook people in the room when I just flip it over and start writing (mine came with a pen).

I bought an LG Gram with 16gbs ram, new for $799 at costco. This is as much of a "value" as it is "budget"

"Budget" Look, I love you LMG, but your definitions for budget continue to annoy me.

Y’all need to take the word “budget” out of the title. That’s a $1050 laptop. About double the price of what a normal person would consider “budget”. $1, 000 is approaching the bottom end of the high end stuff, and is easily in the middle of a mid range laptop. Budget offerings are in the 350-600 price range, mid range is 600-1300 and high end is anything over that. Is there also an ultra high end (or “pro” or “luxury”) option? Yea, the new M1 Pro MacBook pros start at 2, 000 and go all the way up to 6, 100.

5:18 NO! The Flex 14 for $600 is the budget laptop (high end budget, but still budget), and the thing you’re holding is the midrange laptop! How do you not understand that!?!?!?
