The Miniature Dachshund is a small breed of dog known for their long, sausage-like bodies and short legs. They are loyal and affectionate lapdogs, making them the perfect companion for cuddling up with on the couch. Miniature Dachshunds are playful and energetic, but their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living. They are also intelligent and can be trained easily, though they can be stubborn at times. Miniature Dachshunds have a long lifespan and are generally healthy, making them an excellent choice for a long-term pet.

Miniature dachshunds if well taken care of can live anywhere from 18 - 25 years. I had one that passed recently that was my childhood, teenage years and young adulthood pet. He was even by my side when I was fighting Leukemia. I mean literally by my side. He was allowed to stay in the hospital with me because he seemingly understood everything people told him. " Gotta go to this elevator to go outside and potty. " - and so when he had to go number two, he'd run to the room door and whine, be let out, run to the elevator and be escorted outside where he'd go poop in the grass and sprint back insie to the elevator to be brought back to me while I was sickly and in bed on copious amounts of morphine.

He was jokingly called " The Grumpy Old Man " by the nurses taking care of me and it became a ritual of sorts for new nurses taking care of me to walk in and present their hand to Lil Man to be sniffed and approved.

After four months of grieving, I finally got another miniature dachshund. Hans Helbrecht. He's a sweet boy. He's asleep on my feet rn.

I miss my little girl so much, she was active and sweet for 14 years till her last days. We've lost her short time after christmas this year. Now i feel like i'll never be able to have a dog anymore, because it's to hard to lose them.

Man I love all dogs, but I just can't describe the way I feel for dachshunds! My little gator and punkin are only one year old and I can't imagine life without them. Dogs are so amazing.

They're not named after their shape, dachshund is German for "badger dog"

Dachshunds live up to 20 years. Mine lived to be 16. He was the love of my life. I will never have a dog, friend or family member that I love more than my Little Brody.

Don't be mistaken, you are no longer the boss in your home when they move in and make clear that you make the rules and not them. But once they a properly trained they are great companions. My sweet girl was a wire coated Dachshund and shared 16 years of her life with me after we adopted her. Still miss her❤

We had 3 dachshunds that lived for 15 years, 16 years, and 17 years. They were wonderful dachshunds.

We had a female black and tan smooth miniature and fell in love with this wonderful breed. They are intelligent and will try your patience during training, but when trained, they make wonderful family members. Just be careful of their backs... if they want to jump on furniture, provide ramps so they don't get hurt. Ours went thru back surgery at 4 but continued to live another 10 years. I will get another one when we retire so we can give it the proper attention they deserve.

We’ve had three miniature smooth hair dachshunds live to be 17. We currently have a miniature wire hair dachshund. Super cute dogs with lots of energy and personality!

"They are named after their long body."
Yeah, kinda. Dachshund literally translates to badger dog and since that's what they were for, it's pretty accurate.
BTW, in Germany they are known and referred to as Dackel.

Sorry for my bad English skills.
