Fun fact: If you have seen 007 Skyfall, you HAVE seen Hashima. They filmed the dueling pistol scenes there.

The 1950s restaurant kind of reminds me of The Jetsons.

Who abandons a library full of books instead of selling them off, liquidating the contents and fixtures and then repurposing the building for either public or private use?

The Bethlehem Steel no longer sits abandoned. It has been beautifully transformed. With walking tours, industrial museums, nightlife, and the grounds also hosts Musikfest. The largest free music festival in the country. (It starts this weekend, August 2024 and has been running annually since 1984)

That is heartbreaking, seeing the library, all that precious knowledge....

What you called a “shack” is actually a houseboat camp. It partially sunk & being it was just a camp, it would have cost more than it was worth raise it, pump it out & fix all the damage. Hurricane Andrew in 1992 did the same to our camp. However, ours was in an aluminum barge, we sold it pretty cheap to a man that owned a tugboat company. He had all the equipment to lift, pump it out & he built a new camp on the barge & sold for a big profit.

NC native here. The Wizard of Oz park was abandoned for a very long time, but has been opening for a kind of Oz festival for a few days a year for a long time now. All the pictures I ever see of the park online are old ones, from when it was completely closed.

I can understand abandoning a library building, but still, even in this digital era, I cannot understand the waste of good books. Somehow, it hurts to see that.

There is something so interesting around old and abandoned historic buildings

The Bethlehem steel factory is not really abandoned… they have given it a second life by creating an artist venue and an elevated walkway along the building. Definitely a must go for anyone interested in seeing what life was like back when

I'd love to receive those books in that library. There's probably some great stuff in there.

Its sad how a community can let a library like that just go unused and forgotten abt..

Fun Fact: The Wizard of Oz Theme Park was a technical marvel when it opened. From the parking lot through the ticket booths you were in black in white but once you entered the park everything was in color!

The factory that built NYC was called Bethlehem Steel. It is now closed. Some of the property is now a casino and yes you can walk around the old factory and see some cool stuff. Highly recommend it.

The castle is just WAITING for me to move in and lord over it 😂😂

Bethlehem steel was only part of NYC mass expansion. Duquesne Works in PA also supplied very large amounts of steel for NYC and tons of other cities. Unfortunately it's all been demolished
