When I replace any of my Tascam DR10s will definitely go for the Pro. Good show and info. Cheers

I'd love to upgrade to the pro for its timecode capabilities, but i'm turned off by having to buy the Atomos equipment. Currently deciding between the tentacle syncs and deity

I would love to see a Timecode-related breakdown using these recorders! I knew going into it that it was an Atomos integration for TC, but I wasn't quite ready to implement it with my style of videos. That said, I have 4 of these (I've had 3 OG versions for about 3 years) and experimented a bit last year with a couple weddings sans timecode, using the audio primarily for sound bites (used the newer AI search stuff in post to find things) as well as mixing for speeches, ceremony, etc. I can concur that battery life is great with alkalines, but maybe not as good with rechargeable Eneloops. I forget the runtimes, but alkaline was longer, and there was still battery in the tank after about 8 hours of recording for each.

The level monitoring is super handy as well as remote controlling. It was nice to have to turn off recording for, say, dinnertime, and other times where recording wasn't necessary without people knowing it or needing to make it a thing and interrupt them. Obviously, BT range can be a limiting factor for this, I just try to cut out unnecessary audio and perhaps save some battery. That's just how I've used it and it's worked fine.

Form factor is excellent and you can hide it really easily on anybody.

To your question, Justin, about audio quality between the mics. I find the Sanken to maybe be a tad richer, but it also sounds a bit boosted compared to the stock mic, so I don't know if those things correlate. I've used the stock mics and they've been totally fine for my use case.

Anywayyyy, these are great "set it and forget it" type recorders. I've only ever used this line of product for on-person recording, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but they've been bulletproof through many weddings and I've never had any issues.

Justin, I think everyone would love a break down between the Tascam, Tentacle and Rode and how they compare with each other for wedding filmmakers.
PS: Deity released a similar product.

This is one of the best technical breakdowns of this device I’ve seen. I’m comparing this to the DJI mic 2. Both do 32 bit float and I don’t really need the wireless functionality of the DJI but comparing performance and size. Do you have any experience with the DJI?

Hey Justin!

I’m a solo filmmaker who mainly shot commercials and have now entered the realm of wedding films.

Would you recommend the komodo-x for a solo scooter? And do you preffer it over the fx6 or C70?

I’m currently using the R5C

Hey Justin, do you have any videos to explain how to keep a lapel mic from falling down off a grooms shirt? My audio files from a wedding sounds very muffled.

Is it good for film production? I’ve seen mostly wedding filmmakers review the DR-10L Pro’s

WARNING about this mic!!

I bought 2, and I used rechargeable FRESH batteries and then when I turn them off and the next day during a wedding the date and time reset and I dont have time to put the date and time again because im in a rush this can happen even when I JUST set the time again seconds before and turned it off and on again. this needs an update ASAP if they fixed this it would be perfect for me but for now I cant buy a third one
