These guys are true professionals in their field, and when such musicians are in the same room, a masterpiece is born.

Carlos Vega was such a superb player. He had such a solid, yet loose feel. My heart broke when I heard the news of his passing.

~~~ WOW !!! Just got out of the Time Machine from the Mid 80s when I lived on the Island of Maui and would ride my bike with my Walkman loaded with this song #1 to get the legs moving. Thanks for taking me back to better times. CHEERS !!!
They play live as perfect as the studio sessions…these guys are the best ! Time flies but the GRP years stays forever in my heart. I miss the early 90’s when I spend my time at the GRP records headquarters in NY with Tommy, Genevieve, Mark….
Way back in the mid 80s my brother and I both worked at the local radio station as DJs and my brother did evenings and he also got to do a Sunday Jazz Brunch show. Since he used a totally different set of CDs for his Sunday show, he'd bring them home and on the weekends we'd totally jam to jazz on our stereo. This was one of my favorite songs and it really brings back memories of those days.
Well, way back at that time some of the worlds best session musicians joined for this unique and awesome recording. Those who passed away since then left us with an enormous gap. RIP.
This song just takes me to another place. I love when this song comes to its breakdown and Lee Ritenour is playing the break nice and slow and then the rhythm picks up again.
Don't know why, but these live performance was more better than the record. I think upbeat and fast tempo really represented of early morning spirit. Fresh and happy to start a brand new day.
Great Carlos Vega dr... and my favorite other musicians...
I've been listening to this song (and more) in 1989 in New York's CD 101.9 WCTB...❤
It was a time when the songs had the beautiful melodies...😊
I was looking at the credits for Laura Branigan's song "self control" because I love this track since it first came out so I see its this bad ass drummer Carlos Vega who I have never heard of so i plugged his name on youtube and found this gem of a video with the master Lee Ritenour which confirms Carlos is awesome. sadly, I discover him 20 yrs after he passed away. I hope he knows way up there he still making new fans today!! RIP Carlos!!
This song reminds me so much of Steely Dan, and If this had vocals, Steely Dan would be perfect.
