I never stop loving this even for nearly 40 years. Amazing talent in that room. Sad that Carlos Vega died. Nobody played session drumming like that. What a prodigy. Just watch what he does. Incredible. I've never seen this or heard it before and probably never will in my lifetime with a small kit like that. Jazz time signatures are incredibly difficult as a drummer or any musicians and there are 5 different time signatures in this one.. RIP Carlos V. you certainly deserve it.

I’ve see this video many times as I saw many other videos of very good drummers. But what strikes me the most about Carlos Vega was his accuracy, he took it to another level, filled with many sounds and notes this track is perfect. His drum kit is tuned … man!!! to perfection. The sounds out of those toms are tight and so enjoyable.
I heard this in 1988 when I was handed out a VHS tape for demo and right there I was impressed, I knew I had to play drums. RIP Carlos YOU ARE at the very top in my book.

It's a crime to not put this song on Spotify.

One of the best Jazz songs ever. Beautifully simple but laced with chords strong enough to justify Uber complex arpeggios like 3:20🌴

I've loved this track since my dad picked up the CD shortly after it was released over 30 years ago. Carlos' drum playing is so tight yet almost effortless. I'm honestly surprised I've never blown up any speakers or amplifiers playing this because I've played it LOUD so many times over the years!

Dave Grusin only played with people who could play 'tight' with him. This performance showcases the talent that wanted to play alongside him.
