As a self employed person I save my taxes in Premium Bonds. I know I’ll need the money in 6 months to pay HMRC so I’m not willing to risk it. I use it like a current account with the chance to win a million. I wouldn’t call it an investment, more a savings account with a quirk. Most I’ve had so far is a couple of £25.

Have two NSIs accounts (wife an i) one is full second is now at 4k. We have had good returns most months. I would say we get about a 1.5% -3% return /year. 1 month we had multiple 25s, 50s and 100s. It made 60% of the years profits in one month.

Compared to most of the other videos I've seen on Premium Bonds, this video is much better at explaining your chances of winning money and winning big! A lot of others compare the stats of a lottery win with the odds of a £1 bond winning the top prize, which isn't fair because you can't buy £1 bonds anymore (minimum is £25) and most people hold thousands. Anyway, I think they're a good alternative to lottery since you don't lose your initial investment or like what what you said, for an emergency fund. Good Luck!
