I've cleaned up the base, knee, saddle and table. I'm going to start this phase of reassembly by putting the Z axis and knee back on the base.

I tend to use what ever is on sale. I have some Mobile Vactra 2, Hangsterfers, and a couple other brands. All under the work bench in various amounts left in the jugs.

Will come in handy when we replace our column mill with a knee mill. Since we have all R8, most likely will be a BP. Thx for taking out Holiday time to shoot the video and share., , , Bear.

Looking good . Your one has way less wear on the ways than my BP, most of the scrape marks have worn away on my one . For oil, i use 68 hyd oil with a Caterpillar 1U9891 additive, to eliminate stiction . Cheers .

I have a mill that I bought a year ago and finally managed to get it off the pallet and in place last week. The condition looks about the same as yours and I want to tear it down, clean and fix if needed. I’m not a machinist so I don’t know much about this process but it doesn’t look too difficult. What chemicals and abrasives did you use? Thanks for the videos.

I'd really like to do some disassembly and reassembly of my mill too. Even though it's pretty new I think it would benefit 😊.

If your knee is stiff to turn what’s the solution
My gears don’t look as crisp as your tiny chips in them ? I guess new gears ?

I just use gear oil. Next time I am in the big city I will chase some way oil. How does it hold up to coolant?

Looking good Greg! I just subscribed. I use Mobil Vectra on my old Clausing lathe, but it looks quite a bit thicker and stickier than what you're using. The way oil from Precision Matthew's (I don't know who makes it) that I use for my mill with the one shot lube system looks like the stuff you have. I think it would work a lot better than the thick stuff in that case.

I get my way oil from McMaster Carr. I use their no name mineral based stuff.
