Before I brought my Bridgeport home, I knew I wanted a digital readout (or DRO for short). A DRO, especially for a new or infrequent machinist on a manual mill makes it much easier to create parts. I even ended up using the milling machine and DRO to help machine the brackets to more easily hook up the DRO!

Look for the mill to be getting used in future projects!

Hi Ted, I hate to tell you this but the yellow opening chip seals are suppose to be mounted on the bottom to keep contaminates, Chips, coolant, oil out. I have Mitutoyo units on all 10 of my Bridgeport's and most have lasted almost 30 years. Put your reader head as close to the center of the saddle otherwise you will crash the reader head. this should be done on the side as well. Use a depth mike and measure from the table to the top of the scale on both ends within .001 inch if you can (not the mounting brackets). On the side do the same but you will have to measure from the flat part of the way. I have been a Machine shop owner for 45 years. A Tool and Die maker, Mould Maker, and Machinist for 56 years. Good Luck.👍 P.S. I mount my scales on the back of the table so I don't drop anything on it and break it. 😎
