Good on you Taryl for featuring his business!! Neon is a dying art and trade but is still very much admired and appreciated despite the majority of the world converting to LED. Cheers!

I hope Doc Neon has an apprentice or is teaching this stuff. Many of the "old arts", like Beekeeping, neon sign making, etc. are dying out to corporate. We need to keep the crafts alive for the next generation! Someone also mentioned the conversion from neon to LED. LED may be cheaper, but it cannot hold a candle to the beauty of Neon.

just goes to show you, there are so many talented guys all over the country who do stuff we take for granted...they make it look easy because they failed many times and learned how to do it right

I worked as an Electrical & Neon sign installer for about 13 years in the Los Angeles and San Diego area back around 1990 - 2003. This video brought back a lot of memories from those days. Thanks for the video

I worked for a sign company 20 some years ago, and we worked with neon quite a bit. We had a guy locally that did all of our glass for us. I sat with him 1 day and watched him. He was an amazing fellow, and one of the nicest people i knew back then. It is an amazing process. Of course, LED lights were just coming onto the scene and taking over neon. The guy that did our work sadly died while gardening of heart failure and his shop closed. Neon artists are a shrinking breed, and need to be kept going. To me, LEDs, LCDs, Florescent's, and what have you STILL do not have the soul of neon.
Thanks for the memories Taryl👍👍
I also loved the Adam and Jamie in the background!!!

Doc is a total craftsman with skill most people can't comprehend

What a master of his craft! People use the phrase "he makes it look easy", but I'd say that's an understatement in this case. There is so much intuition going on here, it's crazy. Like watching Eddie Van Halen play guitar.

I have a neon sign book from 1933 that shows all the steps in making a neon sign. Doc Neon uses exactly the same equipment and terminology they used 90 years ago. What a great video! Thank you Doc and Taryl, this was a wonderful hands on demonstration!!

He is an artist, he makes it look easy but it took many years to get to his level of expertise very interesting thanks for taking us along!

This is a real find! I had a setup when I was in my teens and 20's where I bent my own glass and used fiberglass cloth for patterns. When I moved I lost my ribbon burner but still have my homemade cross fire setup. Had no idea the government forced the glass tubing to be lead free now. I have a box of the old stuff stored somewhere and I hope to one day get back to making cold cathode lighting!

That was fascinating! There's not enough neon in today's world. back in the day the malls and stores used to be full of it. Sure we have LEDs now but they can't replicate that true neon glow. The pink reminds me of this ice cream shop that was in my local mall when it first opened in 1990. their whole counter and sign was all pink neon. The beer aisle in the local supermarket had neon signs all down the aisle. I miss those days.

It's an amazing art form that has almost died off but for a few guys like this who are also still doing it and getting others trained as neon is making a come with old and retro signs. Had a friend Frank who did a lot of signage back awhile and he had lots of the old neon stuff taken down and replaced by awful plastic sign boxes...now all they want is the old neon back...aahh fashion!

Wow, this brings back memories of me replacing neon in signs all over western NY up in a boom truck. Joe who I think may have been the only craftsman in our area to repair and replace glass for us was the neon guy. Try installing glass letters that are three feet tall up in a boom truck without breaking in the dead of winter. Glad I'm now retired...

Great to see how neon is made,
I just ordered a large neon Sunoco clock yesterday.
Now I know why it's so expensive with all the different stages it take to make the neon parts.
Once again, Taryl has pulled off another great video educating and entertaining his subscribers.

Fantastic!! I learned how to blow scientific glass when I went to school for chemical engineering. Thank you for bringing this awesome guy to us. Not too many people are doing this anymore. I really want a glass lathe but they are so expensive. I am designing and building one of my own. Even those burners are really expensive.
