Indonesia also have this kind of myth. It's named Saranjana, located in deep jungles of Borneo. Saranjana is a bustling city full of high rises. Once you enter there, you can't go back.

i remember my lola from Borongan Samar tell us a story of a distant relative ... a mom and her little son that live near the ocean ... one night her son just disappears leaving the back door open ... the kid was never found ... several days after ... the mom noticed that someone either eats or steals her leftover dinner everynight ... curious and hopeful that its her son stealing the food but in someway unable to return back home, she leaves meal at the dining table each night, but for some reason the mom was unable to catch whoever eats the meal ...the food only disappears only when she fells asleep or leave the house for some time ... this continues for several months until it stops w/o any warning ... years gone by and the mom is already very old ... a fisherman told her that they met his son at sea aboard a fancy looking ship, wearing an all white uniform of sorts ... already grown up and told them to not get near that part of the sea coz its where they dock ...

I heard this story from my Mom because she is born and raised in Gamay, Samar. She told me that her aunt is a "hilot" or "kumadrona" / midwife. Hospitals are far so the people in their area rely on her aunt whenever there is someone that will give birth. One day someone fetch her aunt in a car because his wife is about to gave birth. They are bewildered/ amused because nobody in their area owns a car during that time. When her aunt returned she told them that they traveled in a place that have a very high buildings and well lit streets in a very beautiful place and all the houses are so big. Her aunt is confused because in their area during that time have no electricity.

Another story that my mom shared is when she was in grade school, transitioning to highschool. During her time, every students from different schools in her region have to take an exam to test their ability if they are ready for highschool. She told me that someone from Biringan got a 100%. So the DepEd sent someone to look for that student but they never found that person.

I’m from Leyte and our version of the story goes like this:

A rich student who introduced herself as from Samar bought friends from her University in Manila to Biringan. They landed in DZR airport in Tacloban, Leyte and rode a fancy car to Samar. As they rode, they noticed that they’re being brought to a remote place, tall grasses, no houses or buildings, just a small dirt road. The friends didn’t say anything because they trusted their friend. After a few seconds, they’re suddenly on an asphalt road. They could see tall buildings and good looking people in the streets. It was a bustling city. They arrived at the student’s home, which is a huge mansion. She and her family treated the friends like princes/princesses. A week later the student and her family asked them if they wanted to stay there forever. One friend told them that she will, the others wanted to go home back to Manila. They were escorted out of the city back to the tall grass area with dirt road, with a letter from the friend who stayed and money and tickets for their flight back to Manila.

My papa told us it’s just a myth and Biringan was just a settlement area for foreigners who fled war in WW2.

I love the idea of all these “lost cities” scattered all over the world is some sort of an actual existing place in some other dimension

May taga dito samen na nawala ng 3 days when she was just in elementary. That time mahirap lang talaga mga tao dito and malayo yung tacloban. Wala ring robinsons mall pa that time. Then sumama siya. These acacia didn't budge after Yolanda. Pinutol lang nung nag road widening.

I like to sometimes think that Biringan is either a Filipino version of:

1. Wakanda (a city with futuristic technology in the MCU that they could hide their city from the rest of the world)

2.Atlantis (a destroyed city in Greek mythology)

3.Gensokyo (a sanctuary for mythical beings in Touhou hidden through a mystical barrier)

or4. Khaenri'ah (a nation in Genshin Impact soo advanced the gods destroyed their nation and cursed their people).

As a child I've always heard stories about my neighbor's children being missing for a day or two, only to come back with a story, saying there's tiny people and beautiful people they encountered and an earthly city or town, they asked the children how they went there, the children replied "I was playing on a small mountain and suddenly when I blinked I'm in that city" or in other stories "I was playing near the old tree" and the trees are described to have a door-like structure...

Even if the city does exist, don't assume that the locals there are too friendly with outsiders. There are some stories of diwatas subjecting some intruders to suffering just because they accidentally knocked over their favorite mound or didn't honor some local tradition.

It is like the same of city of Saranjana located in the Island of Borneo (Indonesian side) at a jungle, it is home to ghost and humanoid creature, and theres this guy claimed that he had entered Sarnjana city and said that the city is soo modern and even has flying cars, the city was spotted at a photo of a girl who is going to Borneo island. Everyone said when you got there, you cant go back, many people from Borneo (near the mysterious city of Saranjana) heard noises from the jungle. They said those are the people that lived in the Saranjana city

"Biringan" came from the waray-waray word "Burong/Burung" which in Tagalog "Lito" and in English "Confuse/d".

When we say "Ginbuburong or nabuburong" it means nalilito or getting confused. Kaya Biringan city ang tinawag kase people who think they went there are confused people or nahiburongan(got confused). Our theory about that myth is that people who wander around in the province specially in a specific place in Northern Samar are getting enchanted by entities or spirits from the forest into thinking that they are in a majestic/futuristic city while in reality they are lured deep into the forest and the ones to tell the stories about it are people who lived to tell the tale.

It is not just in Samar but also in Valenzuela. My classmate told me a story about what his father encountered about the same story in Biringan. She said her father's colleague was unable to go "home, " so he sent something to his father to bring in that tree. Her father was instructed to knock three times on a tree. I actually saw that tree when we passed by while we were on our way to my classmate's house. It's not that big, and it's along the highway. So be careful when cutting trees along the road; it could save your life. .  So back to his father: after knocking three times, the door opens inside the tree. Her father said he saw a grand entrance so huge, according to his amazement. And it's not the first time I've heard a story like that. That is from my nanny, who grew up in Davao. And she said you could hear that there was a big feast because they could hear the noise of the utensils that many were eating inside the big balete tree.

OK that story about Carolina and sending a letter to her family but never coming back home leads me to believe that "Biringan City" is some kind of euphemism for a human-t**fficking operation.

Oh I love this story. The one I heard is where they kept delivering like cars in the middle of the forest and it would just disappear. I also remembering hearing one about a taxi driver I don't remember the story well.

I think Biringan is just part of the common Engkantos City, ig just the City Manila doesn't have this kind of story. But, every provinces out there have their own story same as Biringan.
In Bohol, where my mother Live. They said there was a cave which allows you to borrow, expensive utensils for Celebrations which are made of Golds. They said, it's owned by Engkanto's and the only promise you need to do is just to return all items good and complete.
But, because of the greediness of the human mind and heart, they steal items. And never returned them again. And for that, the Unseen have closed the cave entrance. Nowadays you can still visits the cave but you can't go inside anymore coz it's was block😊

It's a very eerie story for me, as I experienced seeing a well-lit Carnival and big city at Majayjay when I was in 2nd Grade. I approached the area, but it seems moving away as I walk towards it. So I decided to go back, but can't find my way. The road seems very different and nothing looks familiar, so I got lost. Until someone saw me walking stressed and thirsty after hours of finding my way back.
