as a firefighter every time we get called for a smoke alarm on a residential building everybody is shocked when we show them that you can just press a button to turn it off we get three or four smoke alarm calls a week

Not gonna judge you. I'm a person who likes to poke around and see how things work (think of checking if the light turns off in the fridge when you close it and figuring out how it does). So, it's interesting to know people don't know about this

It worked but the smoke detector does the test first and then silence. And my ears are ringing I wasn’t ready for that ahaha 🤣

Mine went off just now, and there is 1 button but you press one side to test and the other side to hush it. I couldn't see the writing from where I was and assumed I was stuck with beeping for eternity until I took a photo upclose to see writing. I hate this 😭

Apparently you can also press that button to mute it BEFORE it goes off. Some will chirp, others will have a blinking red light to let you know that you burnt the toast but it won't be the annoying alarm clock. So now it's a race to reach it before the smoke does.
