The 5 biggest themes we will see in the labor market in 2024 are:

1. Less jobs being filled and less hiring activity as companies right-size.

2. But also less layoffs. More will downsize through attrition. Also expect less quits.

3. Less full time jobs. More temporary or short term jobs.

4. Remote out. Hybrid in. The era of remote work is over.

5. AI will become more pervasive in put work lives, both good and bad.

What are your predictions form this year?

All of this translates to, "buckle up, everyone...last year sucked but it's only gonna get worse this year"

Thank you for the insights. I’ve been contracting ever since being laid off two years ago. I’m starting to kind of like it and trying to think of ways I can leverage my experiences to market myself in a smart way.

Remote is here to stay for the highly technical and hard to fill jobs, hybrid is only available to you if what you do is fairly easy to fill and the corporations have real estate investments that they really want to keep without losing it all (unlikely).

If possible, upskill right now and be prepared for a lesser paying job if you truly want to go remote.

Was just laid off. So contract work to look forward to? This is 2008 all over again

Great video! Given it's nature, the last one (AI) seems to be the biggest and fastest-changing trend.

Stuff like this is why I'm glad I have a job. Its just Security Guard work. But I got the Comptia trifecta and it resulted in friggen nothing.

Id advise everyone to build high income skills to be able to work for yourself or as a independent contractor. You will eventually be in demand while still having your freedom. These corporations don’t give a damn about your well being so take back your power of freedom!

So basically another step on the collapse of the Western Empire.
Got laid off this year and 'Happy New Year' is looking a little bleak...

There are still PLENTY of remote positions out there, it all depends on the type of field you work in. Almost all industries practice it, industries like tech, finance, data entry, digital art, legal, insurance, real estate. Thats just naming a few big ones.

question: some companies and previous stigmas say it looks bad if you have only been at a job for less than 6 months to a year and it used to affect your hiring ability. Because it is becoming more normal to work for shorter periods of time, is this still an obstacle when applying for other jobs and do you have any recommendations when applying if it is?

I for one welcome our AI overlords to the workplace. The equity market will thrive because of it.

AI will start being assigned to workers by employers.

Hybrid is definitely growing in proportion to fully remote/WFH. AI plus skills development reduces obsolescence and increases marketability. Get used to it.

I don't like hybrid-work! I'm 100% onsite or 100% remote!! Nothing in between!!

Thank you for your insights, but I'm wondering whether you are presenting American trends only. Is your insight valid for Europe as well?
