We're back in Cities Skylines (City Skyline) engineering a way to stop a huge tsunami from wiping out my city by using entire cities and skyscrapers! We'll be testing which buildings are best at stopping 1000ft waves!

Home buyer: Is this house located on a flood plane?

Realtor: This house is part of the primary defense against floods.

I love that the total lack of good water simulation in city builder games has driven us to further and further heights of madness in Cities: Skylines and Timberborners as Matt attempts to find some kind of good explanation for how the water works and how to deal with it

14:10 the reason the buildings started disappearing is because the zoning didn't get copied

1:28 Yes but the Shaft of Hope survived! It stood erect against a mighty force, a rigid rod of resilience from the wall of wetness that enveloped it.

Well I mean that solves both problems doesn't it? Folks complained the tsunami defense was blocking the ocean view - well if the ocean view property is the tsunami defense then there you go. From the top down view it also looks like you only need about 10 rows of the PS5 buildings to eat the wave and only 7.5 need to be rebuilt every wave - so it is economical too.

I used to go to Niagara Falls quite often, and it’s been interesting how increased high-rise development on the Canadian side has radically changed the local patterns of wind Now the winds which used to drop spray in the gorge are sucked to the Canadian side.

The high density buildings are better for blockin waves, but they didnt bugger off as fast as the low density folks did and the hills they replaced their homes with were much better than any of the low or high density buildings at blockin water

I must have slept through the lesson on "Sacrificial Cities" in design classes.

Fun fact about the Sydney Harbour Bridge that I learned while I was there for work...
The pillars are purely cosmetic/used for viewing the scenery.
The way the bridge was built, it doesn't need them - the 4 pillars were added because the general population didn't believe the engineers that created it.

You could do this exact same test, but separate each section of district/buildings with a long, thin line of terrain running in the same direction as the wave. That way you could see the speed and spread of the wave in each section in isolation without the waves dispersing into surrounding areas. Think your Tesla thing, but with buildings instead of swoopy bits.
Edit: I forgot to mention you need to add a section of only bouncy castles. Because nothing screams "Matt is a well balanced individual" like stopping a tsunami with a bunch of bouncy castles.

Was really unexpected, it got me very well.

Sorry Paddy.
Great video as always by the way!!!

I like how the deflection PS5 buildings worked better than the massive mount deflectors RCE built in a previous video.

5:08 "Can you actually imagine city built entirely like that?"
Soviet-style prefab blocks: "Am I joke to you?"

0:35 1:15 I didnt know that the Seattle Space Needle was such an amazing feat of engineering.

now I understand why the town hall is in the middle of most towns, it's so that the tsunamis and forest fires get slowed down enough and can't take out the town hall, therefore preventing them from three staring your base

I think a good test with the special buildings would be to do the alternating pattern like you did with the one that succeeded.
Also, I would love to see if the pattern made the difference, or just the buildings.

Df just recently said;
"If you want precision engineering, you're in the wrong place"
Now i want a collab between real civil engineer and dangerously funny :0
