I think one of my favorite things about your videos on banned books is the fact that you both address why they're banned and why they really shouldn't be. Yes all those book contain or feature things and/or topics that are uncomfortable but a book making you uncomfortable doesn't mean it's a bad book. Having morally grey fiction is important. Having fiction that portray bad or uncomfortable things from the perspective of someone who doesn't think what they're doing is wrong is important. Having fiction that expresses the real life challenges people face, the pain and suffering is important. It's important for people to learn about it because it makes you think. You can have really good and constructive conversations on those things. Learn from them. It's important for people to learn about things like that because it let's you grow as a person and expand you understanding of the world. Learning those things from fiction can be the safest way to start those discussions . No real person is getting hurt so you can explore as many avenues as you want with the writing. Plenty of people enjoy reading and writing morally grey fiction or fiction that contains content that we know is just plain wrong because it provides that safe avenue to explore the topic. Personally it isn't entirely my cup of tea reading or writing wise but I understand the interest and appeal so I'd never tell someone that shouldn't or couldn't read those things. Especially when they have the instruction and guidance that can come from learning about it with a teacher. I think I got a bit carried away while writing that but freedom of expression is an important thing to me.

The Bluest Eye is one of the best books I have ever read. There were parts that I had to stop and ugly cry about but it was moving and great!

I read Brave New World in my Junior year and I'm shocked it wasn't on this list. Apparently, it's considered really controversial and was banned in Ireland for being "anti-religion, anti-family, and blasphemous". I'm so glad it wasn't banned here because it became one of my favorites.

I read The Catcher in the Rye when I was a young teen, like 14 years old on my own accord. We didn't read it in my school. But I was curious since it's reputation with the assassination of Lennon. I thought it'd be like a dark thriller or something but, to me, it was so damn boringgg. I couldn't finish it and I would daydream and forget what I've read while reading lol

Lolita the book gives the Lolita Japanese fashion style a bad name.

Also, reading Huckleberry Finn was part of my school district's required books to read

Anyone else forced to read the Catcher in the Rye in 4th grade? Or did my school just suck?

Mores; more-AYS. Expose; ex-pose-AY

I'm not being a bitch, I just don't think you recognize some pronounciations, and you won't know unless you're told. I imagine you'd rather know so you can correct it in the future than look back and cringe when you find out many years later. I mispronounced "exacerbated" for decades. Finally someone told me.
