The Icom IC-F4SR has some secrets #shorts #pmr446

Having been playing with the Icom IC-F4SR PMR446 radio (I have two, this one is better condition) I discovered that it has a bit of a secret.
The service manual shows the board for this radio as having positions for extra buttons on it and the display has unused segments on it for frequency readout, duplex enabled and low power making me think the Icom handhelds of the late 90s/early 2000s all used a common chassis probably with different tuning on the BPF and VFO for different frequency ranges.
I will, when I have rebuilt the other battery pack, be subjecting this radio to my usual walkabout tests to see how well it works, especially as it is the best part of 23 years old.
