PostgreSQL Server Setup & Monitor

A tutorial on how to configure Nagios XI to monitor a PostgreSQL Server. Using the built in plugin you are able to remotely connect to the PostgreSQL server to check for such parameters as connections, and availaibity. These results are then submitted to the Nagios XI server. The results will be displays on the Nagios XI web interface or paging can be enable when an issues occurs.

Hi SysAdmGirl, I know this is an older video, but, I'd like to add here that the version available at the CentOS / RHEL official repos are very old and should no longer be used. They are not supported by PostgreSQL community anymore.
As of CentOS 7.6.1810 the version in the default CentOS repo is still postgresql 9.2.24, however, 9.2 and 9.3.x are EOL/EOS.
Check at . The latest packages can be installed through yum via the PostgreSQL repo,
It does install the binaries in a new directory, but, it uses the 'alternatives' method to switch between minor/major versions.

Hi, I entered the following command.
sudo psql -d template1 -c "ALTER USER postgres WITH PASSWORD 'secret';"

It gives me following error.
psql: FATAL: role "root" does not exist

What should I do in this case?
