Cell network engineer here - towers don't interfere with each other they interact with each other

As a professional pilot of 40 years I have never been aggravated by a cell phone. Lol

Im a Cell tower inspector. Antennas don't point down. They're plumb at 90⁰ and radiate signal in a cone.

The beautiful art of speaking with confidence about things you know nothing about. Great job.

This guy should be a politician. He sounds like he knows things without actually knowing things.

I’m a commercial pilot and I can assure everyone that we use our cell phones in the cockpit every single day. You don’t lose reception as soon as you get above the towers. That’s just ridiculous. I don’t trust a word this man says.

We need to start filing lawsuits against people like these.

Telecom engineer here, cell towers interact with each other and not interfere. If what he said was true, you'd be in a cell dead zone most of the time.
Also, if you're in a flight which is flying at a relatively lower altitude, you would still be able to see some reception on your mobile.

Having been employed by AT&T (and Lucent Technologies ) to include implementation of CDMA and 4G in remote and populated areas, I can assure you this person knows very little about cell towers and radio transmission. His inaccuracies are enumerated in others' comments herein so I don't need to reiterate.

Wow, this guy is living proof that confident idiots work better than smart but silent ones.

he just explained why it was impossible for people on 911 day to be calling from airplanes in flight. spot on.

Actually the neighbouring towers DON'T interfere with eachother because they use different frequencys, this is literally the point of a cell network. Frequencys are reused but not next to eachother

According to my dad, who was a 777 pilot, this is all bullshit. He said they once brought 2 cell phones, a laptop, and an ipad into the cockpit mid flight laid them on the instrument panels and had each device downloading stuff simultaneously and he didn’t notice the slight bit of interference with any system on board.

Cell phone tower scientist here - frequencies cannot bounce between buildings, they actually suck my balls.

I was the only person on a 45 minute flight one time. They told me I could keep my phone and not worry about airplane mode. I had excellent cell signal at 25k feet plus altitude.

This video is living proof of the concept of "Want to know the right answers to something? Don't ask for it, just spread a bunch of blatant bs confidently in a public forum, and people will line up to waste their time correcting you!"

But thanks guys, I learned a lot reading these comments.

I came here to correct something and apparently there’s a lot more. The speed of the plane and having to reconnect to new cell towers is a problem for the carrier, not the pilots.
