The redevelopment of Madurai Junction, a key NSG-2 category railhead in Tamil Nadu, is progressing with 30% of the work completed. Awarded in September 2022, the project, valued at Rs. 347.47 crore, aims to enhance passenger facilities and create a world-class station. The redevelopment includes two new terminals, multi-level parking structures, and modern amenities like waiting lounges, retail spaces, and air-conditioned concourses. Additionally, a subway will connect the station to the Periyar Bus Stand, while dedicated skywalks and a FOB for parcel movement are also planned. The project is set to improve connectivity and passenger experience at this historic station.
