Don't get a flying pet if you don't want a flying pet.

Alright, so i uploaded this video like 2 years ago, but since everyone is so pressed about the birds wings being clipped, let me clear it up. Firstly, no, i didn't clip them at home. I got it done at a pet shop. Secondly, the cockatiel couldn't fly straight, and every time he flew, he would crash around and end up hurting himself. So we had decided to clip his wings so he wouldn't hurt himself by flying. I would rather him not fly than hurt himself trying to.

Edit: I got them clipped by a professional. I did not clip them at home 😭

personally i hate clipping bird wings because it just looks ugly. like, why take away the thing that birds love and use the most? whenever i go outside with my bird, i use a bird harness. when inside, i turn off the stove, and fan and then hes free to fly around.

their wings r clipped :( for those of u who don't know what clipping is, it's when they trim/cut off the bird's primary flight feathers, rendering their wings useless w/o them. the purpose of clipping is to unable or achieve upwards flight so the bird doesn't escape or fly around in the house!! clipping a bird's wings can make the animal more insecure and scared, and the process can be psychologically damaging to them, which can cause the bird to develop depression. wing clipping is done for the owner's convenience, rather than the bird's welfare and happiness. so please, if you own a bird do NOT clip their wings! it is unnecessary and unhealthy for the bird. even though a bird can live a long life with clipped wings, it may not be happy or fulfilled. although, it is your choice, i am not forcing it on you! whether it be for safety reasons; and so on. but it's way better if you'd work through those issues via training, instead of damaging the bird.

My gray parrot is 13 yo this year, I live in the Middle East which means this area is not suitable for parrots to live wildly I cut his wings his personality and character are nervous when it comes to training and new things so having him flying is going to be risky. He has good mental health he is perfectly fine, he dances he reacts he doesn’t snap his feathers! ((This is not abuse)) I’m responsible for my bird he could fly away because he might get scared and my bird jumps off when he is scared! And many people here don’t cut their parrot's wings. Then have them fly away and starve until death.

You don’t have to do a full clip. If clipping you want to clip so that they can hover/ glide but not gain altitude. That way they can still fly and get exercise but also it’s safer for them for many reasons. From running into windows to accidentally flying outside.

This is good that you have a good reason for this and to clip their wings but you should always ask a Veteran if you should do this but if its something serious reason that you have to clip a birds wings it good you have done this since it could be life threatening.

I got my baby quaker parrot as a untamed three month old from a outdoor flight aviary. He was completely wild and unhandled and flew into windows and walls i got him clipped so i could work on taming him because any attempt when he flighted to go near him resulted in him flying away he became very bonded and tame with me and i taught him how to gly safely indoors by showing him and tapping windows and wall and encouraging him to tap them. He flies perfectly now and is bonded and very tame im getting another baby from same place soon and will be doing the same one clip to tame and bond then let them fly

Aka: Water is wet.

Obviously if you clip their wings they can't fly away. That's the point.

It's not sad. I would prefer my bird to be able to hover on the way down then to be flying in a non-designated area and being caught mid-air by one of my dogs. I speak from experience luckily my dog let go when he was told to let go.

I’ll say it again,
If you don’t want your bird flying, don’t get a bird

I have to clip the feathers on my birds wings for their safety when I take them out. One time my bird flew into a wall and got hurt. We cut the feathers half way so they can still glide and fly a bit. The feathers grow back every time they molt. Its not abuse
