Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover Launch: NASA's Plan To Fly A Helicopter On Mars

It has been over 8 years since we sent a rover on Mars. NASA's next mission to Mars (Mars 2020) will be launched in July 2020. The new Mars 2020 rover is named Perseverance. Perseverance rover will land on Jezero crater on Mars. The landing site of the Mars 2020 rover has been carefully chosen. Perseverance rover will search for biological signatures on the Red Planet. It will collect samples that will be retrieved in the future mission.

Mars 2020 rover also has improved eyesight as compared to Curiosity rover. Perseverance can take colored images and has a 20 MP camera.

But what makes Mars 2020 mission so interesting is that it includes a drone with it - Martian Helicopter Scouter - also called Ingenuity. The name of the Mars 2020 helicopter has been chosen by an Alabama high school girl. This will be a technological demonstration. The Mars Helicopter Ingenuity will weigh just 2.5 Kgs.

Mars 2020 mission is certainly the flagship space mission of 2020 and we hope the effort of thousands of scientists at NASA brings results.
