How To: Change the Cabin Air Filter on a 2015-2020 Ford F-150

Replacing the cabin air filter on your Ford F-150 should be a part of regular maintenance to keep your heating and air conditioning system working at its best. Installing a new cabin air filter in your F-150 can help reduce the number of contaminants and allergens in the interior, and can help keep the interior of your truck clean. A clogged cabin air filter can limit airflow from the vents, and may cause musty odors if not replaced regularly. Your owner’s manual may provide the cabin air filter replacement interval for your F-150, but it can be changed more frequently if you frequently drive in dusty conditions or heavy traffic. We will be replacing the cabin air filter on this 2015 Ford F-150, but the procedure will be the same on most 2015-2018 F-150s, 2017 F-350s, and the 2018 Ford Expedition Limited and Max Limited.

This video and step-by-step instruction details how to replace the cabin air filter on your 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, or 2020 Ford F-150, 2017 Ford F-350, or 2018 Ford Expedition Limited and Expedition Max Limited. There may be some variation from one year or model to the next, so make sure and know the specifics for your 2015-2018 F-150, 2017 F-350, or 2018 Expedition before getting started. Replacing the cabin air filter on your F-Series truck or Expedition can help limit the number of allergens and dust present in the interior air vents. Your Ford owner’s manual will specify a replacement interval, but if the cabin air filter in your F-150 is clogged, you may notice a reduction of airflow and odors from the vent.

Open your glove box… and make sure it’s empty.
Fully lower it by pushing in on each side to release the tabs.
Use your trim remover to release the clips… and remove the front panel.
Use your socket to remove the two bolts at the top of the upper glove compartment.
Use your trim tool to gently pry up to disengage the clips… disconnect the electrical connector… and
remove the upper glove compartment.
Release the clips on the cabin air filter cover… and remove it.
Remove the old cabin air filter… and take note of the airflow direction.
Slide the new filter into place, making sure the airflow direction is the same as the old filter.
Put the filter cover back into place… and use the clips to secure it.
Raise the upper glove compartment back into place.
Reconnect the electrical connector… press the clips back into place… and replace the two bolts at the
top.
Push the front panel back into place by reengaging the clips.
Raise the glove box… and secure the tabs.
Replace any items you removed before getting started.

Ford sure did make what should be a simple maintenance procedure much more complicated than it should be.

Great video. An excellent addition would be for future videos to talk about things that can go wrong. Such as the little clips coming off the back or that the access cover has a protrusion that slips into an eyelet through a rubber cup. It is also lovely to have a sense of the pressure to use and where it is, and it is not a good idea to apply extra if something is not moving easily. The novice is often a bull in a china shop or tiptoeing too softly.

Good video. The only thing I would add is, fold the tab on the filter up on the sides, so that the filter is flush.
