Make your own SIMPLE 5x5x5 RGB LED Cube (Part 1)

In this 2 part video series I will show you how to build a simpler version of a 5x5x5 RGB LED Cube. The driver circuit only consists of an Arduino Nano and the programming is rather simple due to the FastLED library.

Hey Scott, little tip: For straightening the wires I found it usefull to use a power drill: Clamp one end of the wire in the drill, hold the other end with pliers, straighten the wire by pulling with the pliers and give the wire like a few dozens of turns (or more if you like). Result: Wire straight as an arrow and stiffer, too (cause of work hardening). Dont overdo it though, as the wire will be more prone to breaking (also due to work hardening). Give it a try! :)

You can cut acrylic much easier .. just place your ruler pick your blade knife and do 3-5 cuts just to hurt the acrylic.. then you can snap it in half ^^ and you go pretty good looking too : ]

Straighten the frame wire by clamping one end with pliers or in a vice then put the other end in a drill and pull tension whilst using the drill to twist the wire.
I'm not sure if your wire is strong enough for this method though.

Amazing videos btw, you are very smart. Keep up the good work!

quick tip for arrow straight wire. tie one end to somthing stationary. chuck the other end in a drill, pull it taught and run the drill for a few seconds. the longer the wire the better it turns out.

+GreatScott!
you could easily cut the acrylic glass just with a box cutter. Sharp on both sides along your lines and then brake it at an etch of a table. This looks a much more better then with a dremel.

PS.:
Nice Videos

To straiten wire you could also use a drill. Put the wire in the drill take the other end with some pliers and rotate the wire with the drill. Will come out perfectly strait. Just make sure you dont use too much force with the plier since it will make the wire snap.

For the germans in the commentsection:
If you don't like the softness of copper wire (bends easily >.>), you can use steel wire. It isn't as solderable, but good enough. Graupner sells straight steel wire. 0.8mm*1000mm costs around 30cents or so.

You can straighten the wire by placing one end in a drill and the other is held with pliers. Spin the drill and pull the wire with the pliers and it will be dead straight!

how about a bluetooth soundcard next? battery driven, so you can hook up mic and headphones via 3, 5mm jacks and move around freely
