And as for the car, it sounds like a very good EV, with or without the range extender, especially if an owner has charging at work. Might be worth looking at as a commuter car. Thanks!

Nice review Bjor. I still think this car is best for commuting and urban driving. I hope they will improve the range to double what it is now in pure electric in their next model. I have seen a few of them around but Tesla is still more wide spread but it is great that people have choices at different price points.
I can't wait to see what Elon will unveil later this month for the model 3. I have a feeling it will be a game changer.

About the speedo, think it's what you're used to. I prefer a good analogue meter. I learn where the different speeds are and then almost never look down, I can see the angle of the needle and then know the speed.

Bjorn, The battery pack’s thermal management system uses R134a refrigerant to cool the battery. So it's not liquid.

Do you have the Soul EV available to test by any chance?

While I do like the i3, I'm not a fan of the rear doors. The Soul looks quite promising as well, though. Frankly, one thing that always seems like a let down on other cars is the lack of OTA updates. I think that's one of the most underrated features of Tesla's cars. But I guess there's no chance of other manufacturers doing that at the moment.

Hi! Are you planning any test drive/trip with the new BMW i3 2017? I'm really curious what's your take on Ioniq EV vs. BMW i3 2017. Which one would you prefer?

I've heard that, due to its small size, the range extender engine has issues with powering the car for extended periods (such as on a long trip where you may refuel repeatedly but not have access to charging for the battery) and that this can lead to it overheating and/or significantly affect the performance of the vehicle.

Did you experience anything like this in the time you had the car?

Hej Bjørn! Great review - Thanks. I drive an i3 in Sweden (Gothenburg). When charging during snow fall I have experienced that the charge port is badly protected. A lot of snow builds up inside the port as the port hatch do not protect at all (open sideways).
