Maggie Scott’s technical practice is unparalleled in the landscape of contemporary British art, sitting at the boundary of tapestry and digital media, she employs a combination of photography, digital collage and silk and then injects colour by laboriously pushing vibrant merino wool fibres through silk in a process known as Nuno felting.  Her ‘Five Times More’ exhibition depicts the intimate relationship between mother and child, reflecting on both personal and collective experiences of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood. Filmed at the Knitting & Stitching Show 2022.

The report you cite about the death rate for women of color was just aired on NPR. I was stunned to hear this. There aren't enough words to describe how sad this is and how wrong it is. May I say how extraordinary your work is. Complex and beautiful and moving. Thank you for focusing on this issue.

Your work is stunningly beautiful. As an artist, I can see the immense amount of work and time you have put into these pieces. But I am curious about the back stories … I’ve experienced the deaths of three babies on my husbands side of the family in just the last ten years. To me, still, those statistics sound u real. I’m wondering if these statistics include all countries - including third world countries. That would make complete sense to me.

Great work... Although: In 2021, the stillbirth rate among babies born in the most deprived areas of England was 5.6 babies per 1, 000 births: double that in the least deprived areas. In Wales, the 2021 stillbirth rate was a third higher in the most deprived areas. So this would seem to be something that affects poor white people too. It's a class issue and a poverty issue.
