people dont realise that hs2s main goal is freejng capacity on the extremely conjested west coast mainline now if you say "oh just updgrade line speed" that wont work as you still have slower trains running on the line and it would make conjestion worse then it already is hs2 is the only way to free conjestion on the west coast mainline

we already have trains that run them routes and the hs2 will only make it slightly faster, the west coast mainline could just run 140 with the pendolinos and the east coast mainline just run 140 from king’s cross to hull etc
