excellent video... showing everything needed in a full disassembly to see what we can and can't do.
Thank you for not making it like the other pointless videos on youtube where they just show the outside box and not anything internal.
Question: how long did that HBA controller last without a dedicated fan blowing air over the heatsink? Those suckers get HOT and require some form of duct air flow which rack mounted cases have.

You could buy an usb to sata adaptor for the optical driver and plug it into the internal usb 2.0 port, because an optical driver is slow enough, so you wouldn't need that Mini-SAS board. The SSD could be plugged into that sata side connector.

9:46 - If anyone thinks I put less amount of Thermal Paste that is because the paste was empty at the time.

I can't seem to find an answer to this question anywhere and am hoping you can answer. The system documentation says it has a max storage capacity of 16TB (4 x 4TB drives). If one adds the HPE Smart Array E208i-p PCIe card, I know more RAID levels are added... but would that card also break the 4TB max drive size limit? I mean 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16TB drives are available these days.

I did see one comment where you said a 5TB drive was working.

Very informative video, thank you. I've just unboxed this old server from new. I have SAS drives, can I use your setup for SAS, or you know any other cheap controller cards I could use? I would like to replicate your setup or close to it. I'm thinking esxi that I've used in the past but no idea on compatibility.. essentially for a home lab.. thanks.

Hi! Very very useful video, I'm willing to use the Gen10 as a ZFS NAS, so, as I've read I need to add a PCI HBA SAS Controller. The "IBM LSI ServeRAID M1015" can be put in IT Mode? And the last question... The PCI Card caused the fans to make more noise? Thanks in advance

I thought that HPE offered an SSD option to fit into the DVD/CD slot (not used)

are you using both SSD drives as seperate operating system drives? Man these things got so many options I can't keep them all straight in my head but this helps significantly :)

Nice presentation. It would be nice if you added the links for the parts you installed.

Do you think your upgrades would be suited well to 2 people video editing off it?

What CPU does your model have? I mean, I am interested to buy one for a homelab. But not sure what CPU model to take.

Nice video, good setup, problems with paste, if u got it wrong u would have overheating problems. If u don't, then what u did was right.... would you still recommend one? As i have a Gen8 and thinking about upgrading...

Hello, for the RAID controller should I need to put the BIOS in legacy mode? I'm asking this because I cannot see the RAID card menu during the boot. I'm using a Dell perc H200 which is a LSI 9211-8i (the same of your IBM Raid card)

You're using the WD RED disks, doesn't the smart array complain that these are not genuine disks?

Hello, very useful video. I have a question, the controller you used IBM LSI ServeRAID M1015 SAS / SATA PCIe RAID Controller with the M1000 module for raid 5 will be available on this Microserver?
