Did you guess it? Singing! There's no better teacher of legato and lyricism in music than learning to use the first instrument known to humankind: the voice.

Charles Szczepanek is an international prize-winning pianist, has collaborated with GRAMMY Award winners, and has taught music for over 20 years to everyone from his next-door neighbor to finalists on NBC's America's Got Talent. Through Pianist Academy, he now brings that wealth of knowledge to you: the beginner, the intermediate, the professional, or the fellow music teacher.

Wow. This really spoke to me. My theory and composition teacher told me that learning the piano requires dedicated practice time away from the keyboard. Time spent being a musician first and foremost. Since then I have joined two community/university choirs and have loved singing with others. I have learned so much about performing, listening to others, and phrasing. I believe it has made my piano playing so much better.

I sing and that’s what motivated me to learn piano. Playing piano has now improved my singing and vice versa thanks

My piano teacher has told me this very thing. I hate singing because I feel embarrassed at the sound of my voice. Don't get be wrong. I'd love to be able to sing in a pleasant way. I love classical but it would also be nice to learn some pop out other stuff I like and be able to play and sing those myself.

Charles that is an insightful and awesome suggestion. I'm now taking an online singing course because of your advice. I love your YouTube Shorts. Keep making them : )

I LOVE this comment. Even when we think about many of the instrumental melodies we love from film, they all have a "singable" or "hummable" quality to them, which gives them that special lyrical magic, even without words! 🎵
