What makes repeated notes such a pain is how the best physical approach can vary so drastically from instrument to instrument. Steinways in particular are so unpredictable, sometimes the keys give you so much buttery flexibility and sometimes it’s like taming a wild horse lmao.

To everyone who thinks that she's saying to play passages with repeated notes this way: She's showing how to *practice* repeated notes, and in a quite interesting way at that. Putting the thumb together with another finger and playing slow, repeated notes will help you to stay relaxed and develop good wrist movement when you play actual repeated notes with switching fingers.

Edit: What is it with ToneBase and all these pianists with the most questionable technique...?

You really ought to use 123 fingering whenever possible on fast repeated notes. But on slower ones (where expression is less important), you can probably do this

It's a helpful video. It would definitely be lighter to play repeated notes this way than dancing the cancan with switching fingers.

Quite happy she made it clear it's not obligatory to use different fingers

Honestly, I never switched fingers, so I appreciate what she says here.

Nice exercise, never really noticed the rotation part before... and I makes SO much easier and lighter!

OR you could hold your hand further over and above the keyboard, and use gravity to drop your finger onto the keyboard.

The piece she's playing is Beethoven's "Waldstein" sonata...

Same finger on repeated notes is just boring but it's also truth that comes with tension on wrist

Who tf says 3 2 fingerings haha, always 3 2 1 or 4 3 2 1, always use the thumb

Hmm, sounds like good advice. I’ll give it a shot in Ravel’s Alborada.

Well.. I want to see how anyone plays Liszt's repeated notes in "Totentanz" with just one finger at that speed...
