I'm sure Miley really loved Liam. I think she did her best to tone down her "wild side" to please him. You just can't change who you really are to please other people if it makes you unhappy.

Liam just seems like a very reserved, quite and private guy . The Miley he met and fell in love with over a decade back, seems to be gone now . It looks to me that, during their relationship she was still in the process of finding her authentic self and she “changed” a lot . Everyone deserves to find the one that is truly a match for them and although, I do believe they had love for one another, they simply weren’t a match for each other anymore . I’m glad they went their separate ways and are both being their most authentic selves .
