They do factor in what is on brand for that artist at that time in their career, but that song could have been brought to her as a germ of an idea by one of the producers and then fleshed out to be what it became. It does not necessarily reflect their true suffering, or their true experience. Sometimes a pop song is just a pop song!

Only Miley, Jennifer and Liam know the truth and it'll probably stay that way. However judging from things Miley has said, we can assume Liam cheated on her. How many times, when with who we will never know, and we'll never know if that includes Jennifer or not. All we know is ge cheated on her, and thier relationship didn't work out for several more reasons, some we may never know, and we know him and Jennifer shared at least one kiss off set.
