Barry's powers actually get pretty tragic when we consider the fact that, during the time he was dead, he witnessed as a speeding ghost many great events that almost destroyed the Universe, being unable to help his friends. In fact, this is perfectly depicted in the novelization of "Crisis on Infinite Earths", in which the spirit of Barry, who acts as the main narrator, helplessly witnesses all the tragic events surrounding the elimination of the Multiverse, being the death of Kara (with whom he once shared an intimate afternoon) and the uncertainty of what will happen to Iris what hurts him the most. The epilogue of the book in which Barry's spirit ends up in the future, sees an elderly Iris advising their grandson Bart (who inherited his grandfather's super speed), and realizes his time has finally ended and must now go to Heaven is just heartbreaking

Barry can selectivly dissociate. Its a skill a lot of soldiers gain. It helps to seperate yourself from reality when you are dealing with the kind of stress that barry deals with.

Even though we didnt get much time with him I loved that part of Red Rush from Invincible. It explored how living at that speed constantly would make everything normal be so mundane and boring but he still wants to hold on to his humanity with his fiance

The Flash has the most extreme case of ADHD ever. This is why he is my personal favorite. I feel you, Barry.

They gave a guy with adhd speed powers, that makes so much sense and sounds like the biggest pain in the ass

It makes perfect sense, a lot of people do this every day when they are driving to work. It's called Highway Hypnosis, you get into your car, pull off, and now your home and dont remeber the drive at all, but your here safe and sound.

Yea I’ve thought about this too and it makes a lot of speedster fights look dumb cause you realize “wait a minute these dudes are sprinting down dozens of city blocks chasing each other instead of just punching each other”💀 like a realistic speedster fight would look like a 2 dudes standing, they turn into a blur for like half a second and then one is knocked out💀

The zone out thing makes a Lotta sense. I run/cycle enough to sometimes just "instantaneously appear" somewhere else.

For those Invincible fans we might remember that one of their heroes Red Rush had the exact same side affect with his superpowers. Even told his girlfriend while on a date that his perception is just as fast as he is. That even the briefest conversation is like hours to him. It’s agony!

He basically gets to live way longer without the burden of immortality

He manipulates time relative to himself....so he gets bored, he just learns to deal with it. Like a real man. He's not looking for some escape.

Also he could just phase through everything while running "blindly" . Handled.

Barry is basically a normal guy when he's not tapping into the speed force

I actually think it does make sense, zoning out and making things feel instant. It's kinda like at work when sometimes 1 hour feels like 10, but other times you get into a groove and suddenly your entire shift feels like it ended just after it started. Sometimes you can kinda turn your consciousness off and just go with the flow of things, and in many regards it's better for certain activities that you don't think and let your body take over. He probably doesn't have to consciously run and decide every single step, much like we don't. When you get really good at running, your body fit and acclimatized, you can suddenly begin a mile run and end up doing like 2 or something. I've done it a few times back then when I was more consistent at running; for the Flash who does nothing BUT running, he could probably run while sleeping almost.
