This is perhaps my favourite video of yours that I have seen. I felt like you found an excellent (and brisk) pace that I could engage with easily. This also felt like an excellent introduction to a more in depth series talking the about same things you covered here. I’d love it if you made (more?) videos taking on a specific genre, and digging deeper into their marketability, their better and worse distribution outlets, and important elements for making a film of that genre. Keep up the good work!

usually they have to get sound and DP work to a pro level. Even the worst horror has good sound. And after that DP work has to be up to a standard.

I respectfully disagree. It’s not about what genre you choose, or even story for that matter,  it’s about the voice of the filmmaker.... the unique presentation of the film. We’ve seen it all before, so what is the filmmaker going to do to actually grab people and stand out?

I look to Trey Edward Schultz’s debut film Krisha. A family drama shot in 9 days. That film exudes a specificity of vision that just says: ‘No one else could have made this movie.” It ended up attracting a lot to attention and lead directly to his next efforts; It Comes At Night and Waves.
