The liberation of the slaves was only a positive side effect of the war. Lincoln brought up the topic of slavery because he wanted to neutralize England and France which were on the side of the South, both of them because they received the cotton from the South and England because it wanted to keep the States divided and easier to control.
Lincoln said: "If I could preserve the Union by liberationg only half of the slaves, I would do it. And if I could preserve the Union by liberating no slaves at all, I would also do it." And he also said that a higher race always has to rule over the lower race.

There is nothing in this video that shocking at all. Anyone who has read or studied Lincoln knows about all that this video contains. Lincolns greatness was knowing the effects of his decisions when he made them. He was very forward thinking in that capacity.
