Whale Evolution (Classroom Series) #shorts

Natural history museums and school textbooks promote the idea that whales evolved from any number of possible mammal ancestors. This list includes bears, mesonychids, hyena-like creatures, hippo-like creatures, cat-like creatures, wolf-like creatures, deer-like creatures, and lion-like creatures. Over the years, evolutionists have proposed four different mammal orders as the possible starting place for whales. The supposed chain of whale evolution includes many creatures, such as Artiodactyl, Pakicetus, Rodhocetus, Dorudon, and others. Does this theory align with the evidence, or does the biblical explanation better fit the data?

A whale that lies with a whale is an abomination.

The transitional sequence from a land mammal to whales is quite robust. See Babinski (2003) or Zimmer (1998) for pictures of some of these.

- Pakicetus inachus: latest Early Eocene (Gingerich et al. 1983; Thewissen and Hussain 1993).
- Ambulocetus natans: Early to Middle Eocene, above Pakicetus. It had short front limbs and hind legs adapted for swimming; undulating its spine up and down helped its swimming. It apparently could walk on land as well as swim (Thewissen et al. 1994).
- Indocetus ramani: earliest Middle Eocene (Gingerich et al. 1993).
- Dorudon: the dominant cetacean of the late Eocene. *Their tiny hind limbs were not involved in locomotion.*
- Basilosaurus: middle Eocene and younger. *A fully aquatic whale with structurally complete legs* (Gingerich et al. 1990). an early baleen whale with its blowhole far forward and *some structural features found in land animals but not later whales* (Stricherz 1998).

The whale's closest living relative is the hippopotamus. A fossil group known as anthracotheres links hippos with whales (Boisserie et al. 2005). The common ancestor of whales and hippos likely was a primitive artiodactyl (cloven-hoofed mammal); ankle bones from the primitive whales Artiocetus and Rodhocetus show distinctive artiodactyl traits (Gingerich et al. 2001).

Darwin did not believe whales evolved from Bears. Darwin noted how some black bears swim with open mouths in order to harvest insects for food. Bears can swim for hours at a time. Darwin suggested that such activity of a carnivore mamal could explain why a land based animal spent more time in the water and created a path where it was advantageous for evolutionary changes to happen to increase a mammals capacity for living in the water. He never said Whales evolved from bears.

Being "evolutionary leftovers does not preclude a structure from evolving a new purpose. Penguins can't fly, guess there must be zero use to those evolutionary leftovers that were once wings. Oh wait, they are insanely useful to help them swim.

No, none of those museums say that, the hippo 1 is accurate.

These shorts are like those conversations you have in your head where you own the other person that you have in the shower but its a creationist having them.

Yes, evolution designed them for a purpose.

If they use the hip bones to mate than thats how evolution works....

Yes, they describe it differently. All of those animals converge to a common ancestor, and the whale forked off from that common root very early on, and basically none of the other animals from that branch haven't gone extinct aside from the whale branch, so we compare them to things that people actually know. The actual common ancestor has various traits similar to each of those animals in different ways.

The really unsaid strange part is that NEVER has a mutation made an organism MORE complex, only LES complex. So how did MORE complex forms of life come into being? Certainly NOT by mutation (according to scientists).

Darwin did not believe whales evolved from bears, he described a method by which something like a bear could evolve into a whale like creature, and he was complete right because we have evidence now that a similar process to what he described did happen with land mammals evolving to swim in the water to catch food

We were told (in first year university bio) that whales evolved in the water and then moved to land and then evolved into mamals, and then went back to the water and evolved some more. We were also told Giraffes liked certain vegetation that grew tall so they grew longer necks. And they have the nerve to call creation a pseudo science.

Oops. Someone forgot to disable comments. Better fix that before Ken finds out or heads will roll

The fake confused looks on the actors' faces is a nice touch. These are really well done.

Nope, they are "left overs", sometimes they can adapt to find a new function.
The spurs on boas and pythons are from when they used to be lizards, but they actually use them while mating.

Paul wrote that there is one type of flesh for people another for birds another for fish etc as if he anticipated this sort of claim.
