I had the same issue with the Irwin spreader, I just filed the pin a bit which was sticking out on the rod, that did help to slide in properly and lock. Hope that helps with your Dewalt.

I know this is an old video, but your Dewalt clamps do work as a spreader. When they are new you have to push the reversed on with a little bit of force. They come with instructions, but "Pros" just throw them away, I guess. I have a dozen of the Dewalt clamps (as well as Jorgensen and Irwin). The Dewalts are the most robust of them all.

If they made the clamp ends removable, then they intended the clamp to be also used as a spreader...it appears the limit pins in the rail are stopping the latch engaging when in spreader mode...can you take both ends off and invert the rail...that or just get another Irwin clamp or 10

If I use 24" clamp to hold together boards that are 24" total, by removing the pads as you showed will 24" boards to glue actually fit with pads removed and thin wood block to protect my project? Removing the pads...do I gain any length I mean? Or should I buy the next size up which so far looks like 36"? Thank you.

What size do you recommend for general DIY?

Never had issues with DeWalt but I'm not a contractor... My only thought is that those DeWalt clamps are not made to be a spreader.
