Best Selling Nintendo Consoles 1988 - 2020

This visualization shows the performance of each Nintendo console starting from the Nintendo Entertainment System and Family Computer up to July 2020. Although the video starts in 1988 I included all the NES and Famicom units sold since 1985. I split Game Boy and Game Boy Color numbers because the cartridges were not compatible. As you can see, the Nintendo DS was a massive hit, selling tons of units within a few years. The Switch also seems to be performing similar to the DS, mainly because it's a portable and a home console.

The DSi was my childhood console, still have it and play from time to time, my brother played with it for some years after me too! I remember when the Nintendo 3DS was out, everyone wanted to have it but it was too expensive and when we saw a kid with it we wanted to watch him play, it was a great experience back them for us..

NES was discontinued only in 1995 and in 2003 in Japan, not in 1991
N64 was released in 1996, not 1998
SNES also was discontinued in Japan only in 2003
GameCube was released in 2001, not 2003
Wii was released in 2006, not 2008
Switch already sold 50mln units as of start of 2020
