Selections from Minnesota author Sinclair Lewis' breakthrough novels, "Main Street" (1920) and "Babbitt" (1922), are performed by Twin Cities' actors David Beukema, Anna Leverett, Damian Leverett, and Melanie Wehrmacher. The video was created and hosted by Craig Johnson for the Minnesota History Center exhibit, 'Sinclair Lewis: 100 Years of Main Street.'

Sinclair Lewis (1885-1951) was a Nobel Prize-winning author, born and raised in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. Among his other best-selling novels are "Elmer Gantry," "It Can't Happen Here," "Dodsworth," and "Arrowsmith."

This is absolutely brilliant, immensely enjoyable, and does thrilling justice to Lewis. I'm glad "Babbitt" is getting a bit of attention as one of the masterpieces of that astonishing literary year of 1922 but still far less than it deserves. If youtube were a meritocracy this would have tens of thousands of views. Thank you for this delightful work.
