This is the reason why I took so long to get involved, because I didnt know what was the best way to do things and still dont. And I've known about crypto for years and just listened to the people winging it without really knowing what they are doing fully.

You don't have to switch your hardware wallet at all, unless you're so mad at Ledger that you don't want to use their products anymore, which would be understandable. But the Ledger Nano S/X is still more secure than the Trezor One. If you do want to switch to Trezor, better buy the Model T, as expensive as it unfortunately is. Personally, I am using a Coldcard with Electrum, but that's for slightly advanced users only.
