Why Me, Lord? – Daily Devotional

If God allows adversity to reach you, know that He has good purposes in it and will be with you throughout.

When our son, our only child, died in an auto accident at age 19 Romans 8:28 sustained us in the early days of our grief. We said to God, “We don’t know how good can come from this but we will get up each day and look for the good you are going to bring from our loss.” God began to show us immediately that He would make good on the promises of this verse. As an example one of our son’s college roommates received Christ at his funeral. That brought us such joy and comfort. Let me say that we don’t believe our son’s life was taken so these things could happen but in the midst of our tragedy God kept the promises of Romans 8:28.

Let me trust Your leadership and guidance so that the choices I make reflect Your will. Please forgive me if I have disrespected You as it is my desire to be obedient to Your Word. Sometimes the only way to deal with pain is to go through it.
Rely on God's promises outside of those times, that it may be easier to rely on God's promises during them.

I've a long way to go, but Jesus is faithful.

Jesus is our lifeline. Our only source of comfort and healing. The branches that bear fruit, He prunes. He wants to sanctify us, and that may entail suffering and crisis. If you are afraid, follow Jesus and you will walk in his light. Be attentive to His voice and presence. He is your shepherd and healer. He loves you and wants you whole. Shalom. Don't be afraid. Be in His presence. Jesus is by your side, every minute, every second.

Conquering Pride. The worst we can ever do is blame God when it looks hopeless. And we’ve all been in that tough spot. We’re human. He knows everything before it happens. So these moments can work as a way to keep ourselves focused and grounded. The modern church tells us that God will take us out of our troubles and put us on the road to easy street. And that’s just making God into something completely different than who he is. The one who wants to give us what’s best for our lives. We will never know or understand but we can trust him and be thankful and grateful that he’s there for us. God bless everyone on this Thursday morning.

I was once feeling depressed about the struggles and trials in my life since childhood for a few days and in prayer the Holy Spirit gave me a wisdom/thought:
'God saw to it that you survived.
It's not about you anymore.'

Well, that felt like a slap on the face, but it was definitely true.
He made it sound like:
Get over it. There's LOTS of work to do for the kingdom and now YOU are qualified.

That got me out of my
pity party.

So,
God saw to it that
YOU
survived.
It's not about
YOU
anymore.
Get back into the fight and
help rescue the lost.
There's no time to waste.
Now
YOU
are qualified.
